Big Brother housemate and Babelife fan Susannah Murray took time out of her busy schedule to have a chat to Babelife about life in ‘the house’, her new celebrity status and what the future holds.

How would you describe yourself? My nickname is Saucy Susie - admittedly, I'm a bit of a minx. Very sociable with a wicked sense of humour.
You've recently appeared on Big Brother, how did you come to be on the series?
I had been meaning to go to the Big Brother auditions every year and every year I’ve taken the day off work. I’ve probably taken advantage of the fact that I had the day off because I would go out the night before the audition every year and let’s say, live it up a little too much. I’d wake up the next day with a bit of a headache and think, I can’t be bothered, I won’t worry about it. But this year a friend of mine said, “You have to go Susannah, you can’t pike out this year”. So they called me in the morning and asked me if we were still going and I made excuses “I’ve got to go to the gym first and do a couple of things.” My friend was determined though and just said we’re going there now, and picked me up and we drove there together.
Was it nerve racking?
It wasn’t really because I thought, what are the chances of actually getting through. I just completely relaxed and was myself. I wasn’t afraid of making a fool of myself and get up and sing off key or muck around with the others or just laugh at myself.
What did you have to do in the audition?
I had to stand up in front of everyone and sing a song that everyone would know. You’d have to sing by yourself for the first minute or so then at the end everyone would join in. Well sometimes my mouth races ahead of my brain because I said, “Hit Me Baby One More Time”, and everyone cheered and said, “Yeah, sing that”. Then I thought about it and thought, “Oh my God, I’ve got to sing it now”. So with the worst singing voice ever, I got up in front of a crowd of people and sung it and it was so off key. At the end of it, I thought, “This is why I’m not auditioning for Australian Idol”. But it was a lot of fun. They get you to do a lot of group activities and tell people things people wouldn’t normally know about you. So I told them how I used to work for dating agencies back in the day. I worked in dating agencies for about five years when I was living in Brisbane. I also said that I seem to have bad love karma that I’d kissed a lot of frogs and hadn’t yet found by prince. I think a part of the reason they chose me was that I was thirty and thirty is the new twenty.
Are the other girls competitive in that situation?
No not at all. You have to go in there and be yourself and I don’t think anyone wants to go in there and ruin it for themselves. I didn’t find any of the girls competitive at all, I found the whole experience really cool, everyone was really friendly and everyone was really excited to get as far as they had.
What was the first day like when you walked into the house?
Really nerve racking actually because you go into the house and you know there are people that are put in there to upset you. I’m the sort of person who likes to plan things out and with Big Brother, they can change the rules at any time. So I was a bit nervous about that and I was also nervous about making friends and fitting in. It’s like the first day at school, you want to be friends, you don’t want to fight with anyone, you don’t want to put anyone off. I think one of the most daunting things when you walk through those doors are the lights, they’re so bright because they have to obviously have it really well lit. It can give you a little bit of a headache.
You were filmed 24/7, did you find that daunting?
I think you just get used to it. I think that if you know the Big Brother experience and you know the series, you prepare yourself for that. You can’t walk into the house and say that you didn’t expect to be filmed or I didn’t expect you to show that.
Did you feel confronted by the situation at all?
Intimate hair removal was always interesting.
What was one of the first things you did when you got out?
The first thing I did when I got out was run to a bathroom and get rid of the excess hair so no one could see it.
What about the sleeping arrangements?
At first I was sleeping in the most awkward area, I was actually sleeping in a bed that was joined together with two others, Bodie and Emma. Bodie is one of those guys that is full of beans. So he’s up and he’s down and it’s two o’clock in the morning and he decides he wants to get up and have a laugh. I’m one of those people who really likes to have a good nights sleep. He’d want to jump across and talk to Emma and so, to get there he wouldn’t get up he just commando rolls over the top of me. After a while I started to go a bit batty so I ended up swapping places with J who was sleeping next to Thomas. And I guess the rest is history.
Was there any hanky panky in the house?
Yes, a little...there was one couple who actually did the deed, but a lady never tells and no, it wasn't me.
Have you got any regrets?
There are people I wish I had of persevered with as far as friendship goes. There are people that I didn’t feel particularly close to and I wish I’d just sat down with them from the beginning and just given them more of a shot.
What was the highlight?
Meeting Thomas.
Sorry male population of Australia. Lowlight?
I don’t thing there has been any negative to be honest. You get the occasional person who comes up to you and says that you are silly for going on the show. For the millions of people that are so supportive, there is literally nobody who isn’t nice to you about it. I’ve had so many positives that have come out of it. I’ve had the opportunity to get a twelve-month contract with Zoo Weekly and FHM and work with some other great companies.
Were you modelling before you went into the house?
I did model a little bit a couple of years ago. I did television commercials in Brisbane but I backed off a little from that and I was working in finance in Melbourne before this Big Brother opportunity came up.
You wore Babelife bikinis for your cover and spread in Zoo Weekly, what do you think about when you're posing in skimpy bikinis and lingerie?
I love how comfortable I feel wearing all that skimpy stuff, it really brings out the naughty side of my personality, it's like playing dress up, something I love to do. The Babelife bikinis I wear are jawdropping to anyone who sees me in them, yet surprisingly, so comfortable and easy to play in.

What has been your favourite modelling shoot?
Definitely the most recent Zoo shoot. I loved my hair and makeup and I got to wear cowboy boots, always a plus. It really felt like me.
If you could pose for a photo shoot with anyone...who would it be?
Paris Hilton - she would be a lot of fun and have great stories to tell. She's a bit of a saucy minx, much like myself.
How are you handling your newfound celebrity status?
I'm starting to come down to earth now but I just feel so appreciative for everything. I just feel like this has been an opportunity of a lifetime. It doesn't happen every day. How many opportunities do you get at thirty to change everything that you hate about your life and turn it into a positive?
Favourite undergarment?
My corset and matching briefs. I wore them for a Playboy Mansion party and I felt like a pinup girl. Bunny ears are a must though!
At the beach do you prefer a g-string or Brazilian?
Brazilian, just a little more accepted on Australian shores. Although in private probably the g as there are less tan lines.
What do you wear to bed?
A tiny silk nightie.
Favourite past time?
I love a good Sunday session out on the water with my friends. A few drinks and sunshine, it doesn’t get better than that.
Favourite hangout?
Chapel Street, Melbourne, I’m always there.
Favourite food?
Greek or Thai, it’s hard to choose between them.
Ideal guy?
Usually a lot taller than me, muscular and looks after himself. Someone who can laugh and not take themselves too seriously. I like a man who treats me like the princess that I am.
Turn ons?
Fast cars, good wine and a sexy smile.
Turn offs?
Unhygienic types, I like a guy to smell good and take care of themselves. Men with an attitude problem really get to me too! You have to be able to laugh at yourselves boys.
Ultimate date?
Pick me up in a hot car, drive us to my favourite restaurant by the beach, we drink beautiful champagne and watch the sunset, just laughing and talking…let me see the real you and I will fall in love. |
